THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS...

My aim here is to pass on the bare minimum amount of knowledge that a wino should have to simply enjoy drinking wine.

If you REALLY want to learn about the flavors in wine you could start here > WineIntro.com.

Admittedly there are some things that you should pay attention to when you are tasting a wine for the first time.  After all, it's pretty hard to recommend and describe a wine to your friends if all you can say is "I liked it".  To find out what those "things" are take a look at the Tasting section below.

The thing that bugs me is all the pretense that's been wrapped around wine drinking and tasting.  Some examples below:

"Brilliant ruby red-violet hue. Black cherry, plum, molasses and myrtle aromas."

"Brilliant garnet-ruby red hue. Smoked meat, leather, dried cherry and cardamom aromas."

Come on now; have you ever smelled myrtle?  Why would you want a wine that tasted like smoked meat and leather?  What the Hell is cardamom anyway?

What's all that stuff on the label?

What about the grapes?
